Why this? Why now? Why the internet?
Born in the suburbs, there wasn’t really a lot for me to do unless I could convince my parents to drive me into the city. All my friends lived far away in other suburbs, so I spent a lot of time on my computer, and I learned that with the right skills, the world could be at my fingertips while I was still stuck in suburbia.
I grew up nerdy, and became known as the guy who could pull actual stories out of large streams of data. I graduated from Saint Mary’s University (Go Huskies!) with a Bachelor of Commerce, and started work at a local web design firm.
There, I made my bones as a web data analyst. I had a great time, the people were friendly, the work was engaging, life was good.
Then the work dried up, and I was out on my butt.
I knew there was a market for what I had to offer, so I reactivated the business I’d founded back in university as a way to pass time, have fun, and make a bit of student cash. I used my research skills to find clients across Canada, and into the United States. And I began to make a life for myself.
That’s where the story stands as of now: I get paid reasonably well to do work I love for clients I care about. I’d be happy to add you to that roster.
